Terms of Service

Last updated: July 8, 2026 These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Zynthia, the systematic literature review platform available at zynthia.ai (the "Service"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. 1. Description of Service Zynthia helps researchers plan, execute, and document systematic literature reviews. This includes search strategy management, AI-assisted title/abstract screening, inclusion/exclusion criteria tracking, collaboration with co-reviewers, audit trail generation, and PRISMA-compliant reporting. 2. Eligibility The Service is intended for researchers, students, and professionals conducting academic or professional research. It is not directed at, and we do not knowingly permit registration by, individuals under the age of 16. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child under 16, we will delete it. 3. Accounts and Registration You may register with an email and password, or via Google or ORCID sign-in. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate registration information (including your name, institution, and email address) and to keep it up to date. You must notify us promptly of any unauthorised use of your account. 4. AI-Assisted Features Zynthia uses a third-party AI model (currently Google Gemini) to suggest screening decisions and relevance scores for papers you import, based on the paper's title, abstract, and keywords together with the inclusion/exclusion criteria and review topic you provide. These suggestions are assistive only: - The AI does not make final inclusion or exclusion decisions. You retain full control over, and sole responsibility for, every decision recorded in your review. - AI output may be incomplete, inaccurate, or inconsistent. You are responsible for independently verifying screening decisions before relying on them for publication, submission, or any other purpose. - Do not enter into your criteria, project titles, or notes any personal, confidential, or sensitive information beyond what is necessary for your review, since this text is transmitted to our AI provider as described in our Privacy Policy. 5. Collaboration and Shared Projects If you invite collaborators to a project, they will be able to view and, depending on the role you assign, edit the papers, criteria, and screening decisions within that project. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to share any content or data you upload with your chosen collaborators. 6. Your Content "Your Content" means the research materials you upload or create in the Service, including imported bibliographic records, search strategies, criteria, screening decisions, notes, and exported reports. As between you and Zynthia, you retain all ownership rights in Your Content. You grant Zynthia a limited licence to host, process, and display Your Content solely to provide and improve the Service (including sending relevant portions of it to our AI provider as described in our Privacy Policy). This licence ends when Your Content is deleted from the Service, subject to our retention practices described in our Privacy Policy. 7. Acceptable Use You agree not to: use the Service for any unlawful purpose; upload content you do not have the right to share; attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or another user's account or data; interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service; or use automated means to scrape or extract data from the Service other than through features we provide for that purpose. 8. Plans and Fees Zynthia currently offers free and premium account tiers. If and when paid plans become chargeable, we will present the applicable fees and billing terms before you are charged, and separate billing terms will apply to paid subscriptions at that time. 9. Intellectual Property The Service itself, including its software, design, and branding, is owned by Zynthia and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers any Zynthia intellectual property to you, other than the limited right to use the Service as intended. 10. Suspension and Termination You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Deleting your account deactivates it immediately; your data is retained for 30 days in case you wish to reactivate by signing back in, after which it is scheduled for permanent deletion in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, misuse the Service, or if required to do so by law. 11. Disclaimer of Warranties The Service, including any AI-assisted output, is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated suggestions will be accurate or complete. You are solely responsible for the academic and methodological soundness of any review you produce using the Service. 12. Limitation of Liability To the fullest extent permitted by law, Zynthia will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, or research outcomes, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service. 13. Indemnification You agree to indemnify and hold Zynthia harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, Your Content, or your violation of these Terms. 14. Changes to These Terms We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or via a notice within the Service before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. 15. Governing Law These Terms are governed by generally applicable law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect. 16. Contact Questions about these Terms can be sent to [email protected].
